Day 25 Wednesday July 18

Fog and the sounds of seagulls and surf woke us. So comfortable in our cozy cottage by the sea, we relaxed for the morning and enjoyed the view and each other's company.

Around noon we headed out in drizzle, west through the Siuslaw Forest along the Alsea River to Corvallis for a business call. On our way, a herd of elk watched as we craned our necks to see them grazing openly below us in a meadow by the river.

In the forest, there was a solitary picnic table under a huge treed canopy that called to us. As trees protected us from gentle rain, we watched the silent river, dappled by the weather, flow slowly past.

At Corvallis, Jules' business meeting was unproductive, so we pushed on. The road began to rise out of the valley as the mountains narrowed around us. We are in Sweet Home, Oregon (not Alabama) for the night.

Not every day is sunny nor is each ride an adventure, but there is always an excitement, because the possibility of the unknown awaits....
